Apollo 11

The Lasting Effects

Apollo 11 Today

Apollo 11 effect still lives today. As scientists conduct information from the results of the mission, we gain more knowledge of new ways to reach the untouched regions of our solar system.

Currently, NASA researchers and engineers are developing ways to reach the red planet, Mars. CNN reported that Apollo 11 was more than a mission to the moon. It allowed current scientists to gain knowledge of techniques to reach new planetary bodies. Marshall Smith, NASA’s director of human lunar exploration, told CNN, "[Apollo 11] really built an infrastructure that didn't exist." The lunar mission will allow astronauts to explore the moon’s surface once again which will provide structure for the upcoming Mars mission.

The foundation Apollo 11 provided will allow modern humans to understand the entire solar system. NASA researchers discovered that the moon is the “Gateway” for humans to explore the solar system. With information from Apollo 11 about the moon’s surface and environment, NASA believes that the moon is most beneficial to begin the journey to Mars, know as the Artemis project. Director of the Planetary Science Institute, Mark Sykes stated, “The moon is logical place to learn how we do things, it's easier than going to Mars, but the moon is close and convenient. There, we can start building up the infrastructure that makes Mars possible.”

Apollo 11 has proven it success has inspired all future space explorations. Though other Apollo missions were sent to the moon, Apollo 11 was the influence for the success of all lunar missions. Without Apollo 11, humans would not understand the moon and space exploration as we would today.

"The DNA of NASA is human exploration,That DNA is Apollo and humans achieving grand things." (Mason Peck former NASA chief technologist).
